Douglas Cortez Jackson
(April 5, 1924 - December 15, 2007)

Community leader Douglas C. Jackson passes away on Saturday December 15th [2007] after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Cancer.

He was born on April 5, 1924 in Jerome, Arizona, where he was one of the first babies born in the new hospital. He grew up in Northern Arizona, spending time in Lake Montezuma, where his father, I.M. Jackson owned a ranch, and in the Vermillion Cliffs where his mother, Maggie, a prospector who discovered uranium, owned and operated a trading post.

Upon gradating from Flagstaff High School in 1943, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and Married his high school sweetheart, Frances Souris. He was promoted to Flight Officer in 1945, and was stationed in Pampa, Texas as a flight instructor where he flew B-25’s and trained Philipino pilots during WWII. Upon his discharge from the military, he opened Jackson’s Texaco Gas Station. During the following years he opened and operated the B.F. Goodrich Store, the Little Brown Jug Market, the Stein Club, Thunderbird Mobile Station, and the Arizonan Motel and in 1955 he formed Northern Arizona Realty and Investment Company, which is now known as Caldwell Banker Narico.

He was an active member of the church of the Epiphany where he was a lector and served on the vestry as Junior and Senior Warden. He was an active member of the community, serving on many boards. He served two terms as president of the Northern Arizona Board of Realtors, 8 years on the Flagstaff City Council, 13 years on the Planning and Zoning Commission. He served on the Arizona State Land Commission and was a board member if the Arizona Historical Society. He was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and a life member of the American Legion. He was honored as Flagstaff’s Citizen of the years in 1995.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances, his daughter, DeeAnn Gibbons (Gregg) and son Steve M. Jackson, (Kathy). He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas H. Jackson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 20th at 3:00 p.m., at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 423 N. Beaver St. In Lieu of Flowers the family request memorials be sent to the RTA Hospice 1000 N. Humphreys or the Church of the Epiphany.
