The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, November 17, 2009 In the early morning hours of Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, Thurman Wilson Norris continued his journey into the Light and now walks with our Heavenly Father and the Angels. Thurman was born on Dec. 7, 1959, in Tuba City, Ariz., to Herman and Janie Norris. He was the first son and the second child born to Herman and Janie. Thurman grew up and attended school in Tuba City, graduating in May 1977. In the mid-1980s Thurman moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., and attended Scottsdale Community College. Wanting to secure more funding for college, Thurman moved to Barrow, Alaska, and began work there. It was in Barrow where he met the love of his life, Jeanne. They dated, fell in love and married in June 1990. The happy couple became parents in 1991 when they welcomed their son, Cole. Their daughter, Casey, was born in 1993 and the Norris family was complete. They lived in Eagle River, Alaska, and Thurman worked in Prudhoe Bay as an oil worker, a job that he loved. In 1996, Thurman and his family moved to Arizona and through the years resided in Paradise Valley, Prescott Valley and Scottsdale, where they were members of the Desert Springs Bible Church. Thurman often said that the greatest joy in his life was his family: He absolutely adored his wife, Jeanne, and truly loved being a father to Cole and Casey. Thurman also loved riding his motorcycle, and loved family vacations to the Oregon Coast, Montana, New Mexico, and Hawaii. He also loved to read, to cheer for the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Cardinals, and he enjoyed a good roast mutton sandwich. Thurman is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Jeanne; his number one son, Cole; and the apple of his eye, his beautiful daughter Casey. Thurman is also survived by his mother, Janie; sisters Gwyneth and Brenda; and brother Harlan; paternal grandmother Akenapah Norris; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, beloved sisters- and brothers-in-law and many dear friends, many he had known since grade school. A celebration of Thurman's life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Christ's Church of Flagstaff, 3475 E. Soliere Ave., Flagstaff, Ariz. Please join the family in remembering this exceptional man - a man who was and always will be truly loved and deeply missed. A reception will immediately follow the service. Friends and family are invited to bring a dish to share. Donations can be made in Thurman's memory to the Arizona Cancer Society. Condolences can be sent to his family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Norvel Owens Mortuary. Information provided by survivors. |
