David A. Zackowski

Dr. David A. Zackowski, 47, of Phoenix, a plastic surgeon, died of a heart attack at his home, Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000. He was named this year as one of Phoenix's top Physicians in his field by Phoenix Magazine. He was known for accepting patients who had been turned down by doctors because they did not have insurance. He even established a scholarship fund for a teenager after performing surgery on her.

Dr. Zackowski was born in Cleveland. He majored in electrical engineering at Cleveland State University and attended Ohio Medical College in Toledo. He served residencies at Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Wright State University and Akron City Hospital. He married Elizabeth in 1982. "Dave's interest in helping people feel better about their appearance led him to take plastic surgery cases, especially with children, regardless of their ability to pay. He would even make house calls in special cases," his wife said.

Dr. Zackowski is survived by his sons Raymond and Paul; his mother Jean; sister Lauray Gaeto. Memorial contributions can be made to Christmas Angel, 2707 E. Van Buren, Phoenix, Az. 85008
