Martha Lou Brooks, 68, of Cornville Arizona, died December 13, 2000, in Cornville. She was born August 25, 1932 in Phoenix, the youngest of 13 children. She married her husband, William T. Brooks on February 10, 1951. She spent twenty years in California in various businesses and had worked for the U.S. Forest Service for the last eight years in the Verde Valley. Her proudest achievement was being a 3 year cancer survivor. Her greatest joys in life were her music and family. She was known to always stay busy and help others. She played piano on call to radio stations during her teenage years. She modeled at 16 years old for many nationwide catalogs. She was one of the first women black belts in Judo in the United States and was also a pilot. She leaves her husband, William T. Brooks; a daughter, Paige, who lives in Huntington Beach, California; a daughter, Gail who lives in Mariposa, California; and a son, William T. Brooks IV, who lives in Goodyear, Arizona. A memorial service was held at the First Southern Baptist Church, 11340 E. Circle Dr., Cornville on Wednesday, December 27, 2000. In her memory donations may be made to the American Cancer Society c/o 4856 Hirsch Rd, Mariposa, CA 95338. Westcott Funeral Home is directing arrangements.
