Carol McElhaney Oden was born on September 6, 1936 in Phoenix, Arizona to Sam and Vennie McElhaney. She passed away unexpectedly on December 17, 2000. She has been a resident of Yuma since 1972. Carol was from an old Arizona cattle and ranching family. She and her husband are owners of McElhaney Cattle Company and Museum in Wellton, Arizona. She was involved with Yuma Catholic High School, Yuma Library Foundation Board, Yuma Historical Society, 4-H, member of Forest Highlands Country Club and the Yuma Country Club. She was very artistic, fluent in Spanish and enjoyed gardening. Carol is very much loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Carol is survived by her husband of 44 years, Gary Oden, daughter and son-in-law Christye & John Flanagan, son Mike Oden of Williams, Arizona, grandchildren Jake Flanagan, Chrystal Rose Flanagan and Sam Oden. Her parents, Sam and Vennie McElhaney, preceded her in death. Memorial service was held at St. Francis Church, 1815 South 8th Avenue, Yuma, AZ Wednesday, December 20, 2000. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Yuma Catholic High School, 2100 W. 28th Street, Yuma, AZ 85364. Published in The Arizona Republic December 20, 2000. |
