Phillip Z. (Dr.) Saba

Dr. Phillip Z. Saba, 88, of Litchfield Park died Nov. 13, 2009, at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale.

Dr. Saba was born March 29, 1921, in Nogales. He was a veteran of two wars, serving with the Army at a veterans hospital in McKinney, Texas, during World War II and as the military attaché for the U.S. Embassy in Burma (now Myanmar) for the Air Force during the Korean War. He moved to Phoenix in 1958 after attending medical school, and moved to Litchfield Park in 1967. He was a general surgeon for 28 years and was appointed to the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners by Gov. Raul Castro, and served on the board until he retired. He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul in Maryvale, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Avondale and past president of the Phoenix Surgical Society.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ebye; one daughter, Phyllis Zoe; two sons, Phillip Jr. and Khaleel Andrew; two sisters, Afifa and Helen; one brother, Emil; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 23 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 13720 W. Thomas Road in Avondale.
