Raymond W. Atherton, age 83, passed away on December 28, 2002. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 1, 1919.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, member of VFW and American Legion. He was a retired member of U.A. Local 469 Plumbers Union.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie and son Raymond.

He is survived by his daughter Mary Ann Birarelli, and grandson Michael O'Brien, sisters Grace Rieckhoff (Louis) and Mary Hoekstra, and brother Ralph. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and step-children.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Funeral Service at 12:00 P.M., Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave. Glendale.

Burial to follow at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

Because of Raymond's life-long generosity to those in need, the family requests in lieu of flowers, that a contribution be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, 420 W. Watkins Street, Phoenix, AZ 85003, or Bryan's Hospice of Arizona, 9155 N. 3rd St., Phoenix, AZ 85020.
