Sigmund Stechnij, 81 of Mesa died December 27, 2002. Sigmund was born in Chicago May 13, 1921 and enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942.

He was stationed at Williams Air Base where he met his future wife of 59 years. He was a salesman for Guerrero Lindsey Sign Company and owner of White Eagle Decorating. He was a member of the American Legion Post 26, serving twice as Post Commander.

He is survived by his wife, Herminia Guerrero, son, Jozef, Hector (Glenda), Mark, Stephen, Jim (Sandy), and daughter Michaele Thierbach (John). He is also survived by his grandchildren Joe, Adrian, Eric, Jason, Ryan, Casey, Alison, Robert, Aaron, Jamie, Josh Stechnij, Angela Clark, Jon, Matthew, and Amy Thierbach and twelve great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sons Rick.

A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, January 2, at 2:3O p.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mesa, Arizona.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances to the Neely Ray Hospice House.
