Fern (Boozer) Wood

Fern Wood, 82, died Sunday, December 29, 2002 at an Abilene Medical Center after a short bout with cancer. Born June 26, 1920 in Ovalo, Texas to A.D. and Nell Boozer, Fern graduated from Ovalo High School.

She moved to Phoenix, Arizona and married Cecil W. Wood on June 24, 1939. During their 61 years of marriage, the couple maintained homes in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tumacacori, and Flagstaff, Arizona.

Fern came to Abilene in July 2001 to spend some time with her three sisters and one brother. She was a longtime member of First Southern Baptist Church in Phoenix, Az. Fern served her Lord in many ways over the years with a special love for working with children. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and loved entertaining and sporting events. Her love and generosity will be missed by all who were privileged to know her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil, on November 9, 2000; her parents; and a brother, Harold Boozer.

Survivors include two sons, Rev. Alvin Wesley Wood and wife, Martha, of Brinnon, Washington, and Johnny Michael Wood and wife, Jan, of Golden, Colorado; a daughter Kristi Karol Lawrence and husband, Wally, of Flagstaff, Arizona; a brother, Van M. Boozer and wife, Melba, of Abilene, Texas; and three sisters, Celeta Martin, Su Swindle, and Joretta Pogue and husband, James M., all of Abilene, Texas. She is also survived by three granddaughters, La Nell and Gary Richard of Palm Springs, Calif., Lisa and Rick Baker of Phoenix, Az, and their mother, Ruth Wood of Phoenix, and Ann and Tony Shofstall of Las Cruces, N.M.; two grandsons, John Wood and his wife Joan of Denver, Colo. and Ryan Lawrence of Tucson, Az.; two great-grandsons, Chad and Jason Richard; and a number of extended family members and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Green Acres Chapel of Light, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona.
