Ray Alva Carpenter

Ray Alva Carpenter, 64, passed away November 22, 2009. Ray was born February 7, 1945 in Pima, AZ to Albert and Maybell Carpenter. Ray served a mission in the Eastern Atlantic States from 1964-1966. Ray graduated from Arizona State University, where he met his sweetheart, Gloria Boyd. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple, April 10, 1968. Ray taught elementary education in Tempe, Arizona for 30 plus years.

Ray was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many church callings. Ray had a great love and talent for music.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Maybelle Carpenter, his brother, Eddie Carpenter, and sister, Alberta Johnson.
Ray is survived by his wife Gloria, of 41 years. His children Shawna (David) Hall, Kara Carpenter, Tanya (Todd) Edgmon, David Carpenter, Darla (Joey) Bennett, and Derek (Kellyn) Carpenter. He has 11 grandchildren, and 3 brothers, Ross (Pam) Carpenter of St. Johns, AZ, Dick (Ada) Carpenter of Mesa, AZ, and Mannie (Linda) Carpenter of Mesa, AZ.

A viewing will held be at 9:30 AM on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the Pima Chapel and the funeral will follow at 11:30 AM.

Ray will then be laid to rest at the Eden Cemetery.
