Robert Samuel Garber, 66, passed away at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico on January 26, 1997, following a six month battle against cancer. He was born in Hobart, Indiana, on March 30, 1930, to Robert and Mary Agnes Garber who have preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was an infant son, Garry Preston. Mr. Garber was born and raised in Hobart,Indiana. Throughout his career with the Federal Goverment he lived 10 years in Page, Arizona; Carlsbad Caverns National Park for six years; Del Rio, Texas for seven years and he has lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico for the past 10 years. He was a past member of Toastmasters International and a Boy Scout Leader in Page, Arizona. Mr. Garber is survived by his loving wife, Vivian; sons: Randall and wife Karen of New Orleans, Louisiana, James and wife Caryl of Phoenix, Arizona, Kyle of Santa Fe; daughter, Lori Hautt and husband Bill of Waldorf, Maryland; grandsons: Grant and Ryan Garber, Brandon and Joshua Hautt, and granddaughters: Amanda and Hope Garber; brother, Edward and wife Mickey of Hobart, Indiana; sisters: Leona of Roswell, New Mexico, Mary Ackenhusen of Hobart, Indiana; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; seven nieces; and seven nephews. Memorial Services were held on February 5, 1997, at Berardinelli Family Chapel, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Visiting Nurse Service Hospice, 811 St. Michael's Drive, Santa Fe, NM 87505 and/or the National Cancer Research Institute, 681 5th Ave., New York, New York, 10022 (1-800-992-2623).
