Bernard Levine

Bernard Levine, 96, founded dress-making firm.
Graveside services were held yesterday in Memorial Park for Bernard Levine, founder of the former Boston dress-manufacturing firm of Miller & Levine.

Mr. Levine died Wednesday at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital in Arizona . He was 96 and lived in Phoenix .

A native of Stalbonov, Russia, who came to the United States in 1925, Mr. Levine opened the business in 1940. The firm made dresses for Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue, among other stores. He sold the company in 1965 after being named designer of the year three times by the Rhode Island School of Design.

Mr. Levine was a life member of Brandeis University, the American Jewish Committee and the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies.

He leaves his wife, Sonia (Spector); a son, Stanley, of Phoenix ; a daughter, Shirley Silver of Greenwich, Conn.; a brother, Elliot, of Sharon, Mass.; five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
