West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona May 1, 2007 Robert Lincoln Stacklie, 83, died April 26, 2007. He was born April 6, 1924, in Longview, Wash. He graduated from R.A. Long High School in Longview, Wash., in 1942 and enlisted as an aviation cadet in December 1942. He graduated April 15, 1944, from Luke Air Force Base. Col. Stacklie was trained to fly a P-47 Thunderbolt in July 1944 and was sent to the European Conflict in 1944. He was stationed with the P-47 9th Air Force, 50th Fighter Group, 81st Fighter Squadron, completing 108 missions during World War II. Col. Stacklie married Phyllis Nelson on New Years Day in 1946 in Vancouver, Wash. After he was released from active duty in 1946, they moved back to the northwest and he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves in Portland, Ore. He was recalled for active duty in March 1951 and was sent to Korea, 39th Fighter Squadron, 18th Fighter Wing, flying a P-51 and completing 75 flying missions. He was released again and in 1964 volunteered for active duty and completed 265 assignments and retired. Col. Stacklie was awarded the Air Medal with 15 clusters, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, World War II and Koren Campaign Medals with four battle stars, Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, United Nations Service Award, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Legion of Merit and the American Defense Medal. Col. Stacklie was a member of the Longview Country Club, Peterson Field AFB, Air Force Academy, Glen-Eagle and PebbleCreek Golf Resort. Col. Stacklie is survived by his wife, Phyllis (nee Nelson) Stacklie; one daughter, Cindy Mooney; two sons, Robert and Tim Stacklie; one sister, Wanda Bunch; seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Services with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. May 5, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 830 Plaza Circle, Litchfield Park. An additional service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, Colo., at a later date. Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church.
