Esther Charlotte Maharry

Esther Charlotte Maharry, 85, of Cottonwood and formerly of Palo Verde died March 5, 2007.

Mrs. Maharry was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Cartwright, N.D., and grew up there and in Fairview, N.D. In 1943, she joined the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and received training in Battle Creek, Mich. She later moved to Tulelake, Calif., where she met and later married Vern Maharry on April 16, 1946.

The couple moved to southern Arizona near Gadsden, where Mr. Maharry helped establish a farm before receiving a calling to become a minister. The couple then moved to Yuma, where he ministered at Mesa Vista Mission and later went to Arizona Bible College in Phoenix for three years.

They subsequently moved to Palo Verde, Gila Bend and Page to oversee churches. After retiring, they moved to Cottonwood, where they had lived the past 11 years.

Mrs. Maharry is survived by her husband, Vern; one daughter, Charlene Talbott of Flagstaff; one son, Charles of Cottonwood; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Palo Verde Baptist Church in Palo Verde. Memorials may be sent to the Northern Arizona Hospice, 269 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood, AZ 86236. Adobe Chapel Funeral Home in Avondale made the local arrangements.
