Verna Frances Giannonatti, 87, of Buckeye died March 17, 2007, at the Palm Valley Rehabilitation & Care Center in Goodyear.

Mrs. Giannonatti was born March 9, 1920, on a houseboat in the Puget Sound in Washington. She and her family moved to South Dakota when she was young, and she later graduated in 1937 from Elk Point High School.

She married Ray Giannonatti on June 30, 1942, in Sioux City, Neb., and they lived in Ludlow, S.D., until 1967, when they moved to Buckeye. Mrs. Giannonatti was active in the Buckeye Woman's Club, Rebekkahs, Eastern Star and Buckeye Community Church.

Mrs. Giannonatii was preceded in death in 1978 by her husband, Ray.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy Haivala of Spearfish, S.D., and Peggy Edgar of Buckeye; two sons, Don and Joe, both of Ludlow, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ganley's Buckeye Funeral Home, 104 Baseline Road in Buckeye. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Buckeye Community Church, 810 E. Eason Ave. in Buckeye.
