The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Friday, January 3, 2003 Sylvia Marie Escen, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on Thursday, December 19 at the age of 77, following an extended battle with rheumatoid arthritis. Born on May 20, 1925, in Dassel, Minnesota, she was the youngest child of Caeser Wilson of Vallby, Sweden and Hilda Marie Freeman Wilson of Dassel. Sylvia and her surviving husband, Paul Allen Escen, also of Dassel, married on July 10, 1949 and recently celebrated 53 years of marriage. Following completion of training at the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, where she was certified as an X-Ray and Electrocardiographic and Clinical Laboratory Technician, the couple moved to Arizona in 1958, residing in Tucson for three years where Paul was staff photographer for Hughes Aircraft. They moved to Phoenix in 1961 and Paul spent 29 years as head of photo operations for Arizona Public Service Company. Sylvia was a long-time member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Phoenix. She has one surviving brother, Wendell Wilson, of Rice Lake, Wisconsin and two brothers who predeceased her, Hilding Wilson of South Dakota and Dr. Lowell Wilson, of Minnesota. Sylvia also has numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. A memorial service celebrating Sylvia's life will be held Saturday, January 4, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1212 E. Glendale, in Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to her church. |
