The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Friday, January 3, 2003 Florence Margaret Johnson, 93, a Gig Harbor resident since 2000 passed onto heaven Dec. 7, 2002. She was a retired R.N. who lived at Merrill Gardens. Florence was born in Wilson, Wisc. on July 25, 1909 to her father Anton Felix Zensen and to her mother, Emma Gertrude Melcher Zensen. Her family moved back to Ashton, Iowa in 1910. She was raised in a German family with three brothers and four sisters. She attended nursing school in Sioux City, Iowa, and moved to Huntington Park, Calif. in 1933, where she met her husband, Victor Emanuel Johnson. They were married in 1939 in Glendale, Calif. They lived in Whittier and Riverside, Calif. before moving to Phoenix, Az. in 1944. Florence was a homemaker and a member of the Trinity Cathedral and All Saint's Episcopal Church, both of Phoenix. She served on the first Altar Guild at All Saint's and was a member of The Oasis Club. She loved to garden and was an expert seamstress. She will truly be missed, as she was a sweet, precious servant of the Lord, and was known as "Florence Nightengale" in her neighborhood of Rancho Solano. Family members include her son, Victor Anthony (Tony) Johnson, and wife Betty of San Marcos, Calif., daughter, Janet Elaine Vitcovich, and husband, Dennis of Gig Harbor, Wash., her sister Ethel Marie Anderson of Norwalk, Calif., five grandchildren, David Anthony Johnson and Darrell Franklin Johnson, both of Gig Harbor, Victoria Jeannine Shrewsbury of Paradise Valley, Az, Jennifer Jeanine Vitcovich of DuPont, Wash. and Derek Dennis Vitcovich of Gig Harbor, four great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Alyssa, Sophie, and Hayden Johnson, all of Gig Harbor, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be Jan. 11, 2003 in Phoenix at All Saint's Episcopal Church, 6300 Central Ave., Phoenix, Az. at 2:00 p.m. and Jan. 18, 2003 at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church, 7700 Skansie Ave. NW, at 2:00 p.m, where she attended since living in Gig Harbor. Remembrances may be made to your local hospice. |
