The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Friday, January 3, 2003 Howe Octavius Thomas, born in Huntington, W. VA. and came to Phoenix, Az. in 1964 with his childhood sweetheart, Betsy Pettyjohn. In college, he played trumpet for the precision military band of VA. Tech, the Highty-Tighties. Upon graduation, Capt. Thomas received an assignment to Hawaii in the Signal Corps of the Army Air Force. Receiving a Bronze Star for his service. He later worked as an electrical engineer at GE in Phoenix and retired 1983 from Honeywell. Member of Central United Methodist Church before moving to Lexington. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Betsy Pettyjohn; daughter, Elizabeth Stuart Garner; son Rev. Dr. H. O. Tom Thomas; and three grandchildren Melissa Lee Garner, Karissa Grace and John Stuart Thomas. Predeceased by son Glenn A. Thomas. Memorials to First United Methodist Church, 200 W. High St., Lexington, Ky., 40507. |
