The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Friday, January 3, 2003 John Henry Tiedemann, born March 18, 1910 in Alameda, Calif., to Henry and Lillian Keller Tiedemann, died December 21, 2002. His father, with Russell McMorran, founded a wholesale grocery business, Tiedemann and McMorran, in San Francisco, Calif. John expanded the business with branches in Sacramento, Calif., and Reno, Nev. The site of his warehouse in S.F. is now the location of the Pacific Bell Baseball Park. Upon his retirement in 1966, he sold the company to Sara Lee. He served on the Board of Directors of Children's Hospital of the East Bay, Oakland Boys Club, and Pacific National Bank. He was a lifetime member of the S.F. Olympic Club. He married Rose Dore from Calistoga, Calif. who predeceased him in death in 1971. He subsequently married Barbara Warren Wilson who predeceased him in 1990. He is survived by his sister, Irma Doane and by two children, Barbara Lyss of Orinda, Calif., and Jill Kent of Santa Barbara, Calif., and three grandchildren, Ted Kent, Heidi Lyss and Robert Lyss. He had an amazing joy for life and love and generosity for his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman, duck hunter, and music lover. We will miss him. Friends may remember him with a contribution to the Children's Hospital of the East Bay, the Oakland Boys Club, or the American Cancer Society. A memorial service was held Monday, December 30 at 1:00 p.m., Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 13724 W. Meeker Blvd., Sun City West, Az. |
