Ray O. Yanez

Funeral services for Mr. Ray O. Yanez, age 86, who passed away Jan. 17, 2008, at his residence in Wittmann, Ariz., will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix. Ray was born in Phoenix and raised in Bagdad and Prescott.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was the first scout in the Philippine Islands. Following his military service, he returned to Prescott where he worked as a surgical technician at the Veteran’s Hospital for 47 years.

He is survived by his wife, Cleo, of Wittmann; children Steve Yanez and Ernestine Yanez of Prescott, Sherri Morales of Wittmann, Harvey Hutter Jr. of Prescott Valley, Michael Hutter of Birmingham, Ala., and Steven Hutter of Jacksonville, Fla.

Ray O. Yanez, age 86, passed away Jan. 17 at his residence in Wittmann, Ariz. Funeral services were held on Tuesday (Jan. 22) at 10:30 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix with visitation on Sunday at the Wickenburg Funeral Home.

Ray was born in Phoenix and raised in Bagdad and Prescott. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the first scout in the Philippine Islands.

Following his military service he returned to Prescott where he worked as a surgical technician at the Veteran’s Hospital for 47 years, retiring in 1980. He later worked at Yavapai Regional Hospital for a brief time.

Ray was a very skilled craftsman and carpenter and could build just about anything. He enjoyed his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and considered family the most important thing in his life.

He is survived by his wife Cleo of Wittmann; children Steve Yanez and Ernestine Yanez of Prescott, Sherri Morales of Wittmann, Harvey Hutter, Jr. of Prescott Valley, Michael Hutter of Birmingham, Ala., Steven Hutter of Jacksonville, Fla., 28 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home & Crematory.
