Kazubowski, 69, of Prescott Valley, Arizona, passed away on November 20, 2009. During his illness, Phil suffered a heart attack and endured several kinds of chemotherapy, none of which helped. His fierce determination and fighting attitude kept him physically active until the last few months. Phil was born in Kewanee, Illinois on May 24, 1940 and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1958. He attended Humboldt Institute in Minnesota where he was trained for ground work with Continental Airlines. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he married and became an engineer for the Phoenix Fire Department. He retired in 1985 after 23 years of service. Phil was an excellent bass fisherman and was an expert in repairing fishing reels and constructing hand-wrapped fishing poles. After retirement, he enjoyed playing cards at the fire houses. Pitch was his game of choice. He also played pool and won several state championships playing English pub darts. Phil was very mechanically inclined and an expert carpenter. He built his own tool shed and designed and built gates for friends. He was generous with his talent and time, helping friends and neighbors with home repairs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Carolyn Kazubowski of Kewanee, Illinois. Phil is survived by his wife, Joan of Prescott Valley, Arizona; son, Kevin and daughter-in-law, Terri Kazubowski of El Mirage, Arizona; son, Kenneth P. Kazubowski of Phoenix, Arizona; brother, Thomas and sister-in-law, Rebecca Kazubowski of Kewanee, Illinois. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews, all of Phoenix, Arizona. Phil was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center Hospice staff members for their loving care and also to the New Horizon Adult Care Center employees for their care during his last days.
