The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona 11/27/2009 Judith "Judy" Ann Chavez, 68, of Show Low died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at a Phoenix hospital. She was born Feb. 1, 1941, at Cape Girardeau, Mo., the daughter of James and Hattie (Hussery) Gibbons. She lived with her family at Witt and Nokomis, Ill., before moving to Chicago. They moved to California in 1952 and she graduated from Loretto High School in 1959. She was married to Art Chavez July 18, 1964, at Alhambra, Calif. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Monterey Park, Pico Rivera and Santa Fe Springs, Calif. She was employed by the Archdiocese for three years, the City of Alhambra for two years and the City of Santa Fe Springs for 34 years from where she retired in 1997. She came to Show Low in 2001. She was a member and past president of the Soroptimists for 20 years. She enjoyed computers, reading science fiction, traveling, shooting and cooking. She was a member of Saint Rita Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Art, brother David Gibbons of Portland, Ore., and many cousins. A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at Saint Rita Catholic Church. A Mass will be celebrated by Father Joe Blonski at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Saint Rita Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Black's Mortuary of Show Low.
