The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, January 5, 2003 Vernon Kores, M.D., 91 of Phoenix, Ariz., died January 3, 2003 in Phoenix. He was born April 5, 1911 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and received his medical degree from Marquette School of Medicine, Marquette University, Milwaukee. Vernon married Lucile Arends and started his practice of pediatrics in Milwaukee. He served in the U.S. Public Health Service on Ellis Island, NYC, during WWII. In 1957, he moved with his wife and son to Arizona where he was Scottsdale's first pediatrician. He was Chief-of-Staff at Scottsdale Baptist Hospital (now Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn) from 1961-1962. Retiring from private practice in 1966, he worked for Arizona Department of Economic Security Disability Determination Service. He retired the second time in 1995. He was a lifetime member of the American Medical Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He enjoyed traveling, reading and held a private pilot's license. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucile Kores, wife Jane Kores, and wife Mary Kores. He is survived by his son, David and daughter-in-law Nancy, niece Ann Peters, New Berlin, Wisc., and nephew Roy Weiker of Payson, Arizona. Contributions may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
