The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, January 5, 2003 Robert (Bob) Partee Matthews, 81, long time resident of Albuquerque and Phoenix passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 2, 2003. Bob proudly served his country in WWII as an Army Air Corps pilot before moving to New York University and then to New Mexico as part of the Manhattan Project. He spent much of his career working with national defense at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque. While residing in Albuquerque, he raised his family and was active in his Church. He dedicated over 13 years of his life serving as a scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America. In 1978, he moved to Phoenix to take a position at Sperry Flight Systems. He returned to lbuquerque in 1998 following the death of Dorothy, his wife of 51 years, where he enjoyed a quiet and happy retirement. He is survived by his children Robert (Stacy) of Pacific Grove, CA, Richard (Melody) of Albuquerque, Thomas (Beckie) of Eden Prairie, MN, and Katherine (Steve) Peterson of Phoenix; his grandchildren, Kevin (Vicki), Karen, Rebecca (Brian) Bainter, Jason (Faith), Kristi (Rich) Mayers, Melissa and Alicia Matthews, Holly, Laurie, and Shane Peterson, Chuck Scarpinitti, Amie, Brianna, Cameron and Dianna Hamilton; and his great-grandchildren, Corinne, Cole, Jackelyn, and Michelle. Visitation 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2003 at Lundberg Mortuary White Rose Chapel, 5310 W. Northern Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 6, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Helen's Catholic Community in Glendale, Az. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Glendale. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. |
