The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, January 5, 2003 Marie Hurst Payne, died on December 20, 2002. She was a native and life long resident of Arizona, having been born in Phoenix on Feb. 8, 1924. She attended Kennilworth Elementary, graduated from Phoenix Union High School, and attended Phoenix College. She worked for Arizona Public Service prior to her almost 40 year marriage to John "Jack" Payne of Southwestern Scale Company, who preceded her in death. Throughout her life, she remained the loving and devoted mother of Diane Smith of Camp Verde. She is also survived by sister, Nellree Paris, of Sun City, son-in-law Ron Smith, sister-in-law Dorothy Johnson, of Calif., granddaughter Lisa Ehreth, of Calif., grandchildren Kyra, Cole, and Taryn; and by many good neighbors and friends. Marie was the most loving Mother and best friend to her daughter who was very proud of her. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends, for her sense of humor and kind ability to listen. A remembrance celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at her residence.
