Pearley H. Wells, Jr.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 8th, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church, 9248 East Riggs Road, in Sun Lakes, Arizona, 85248.

Pearley died of natural causes Thursday, January 2nd, in Sun Lakes, Arizona.

All friends and their families are welcome to attend the celebration of his life at the church followed by a gathering at the family home at 9714 E. Sherwood Way in Sun Lakes.

Pearley was born July 15th, 1924, to Pearley and Phoebe Wells in Lawrence County, Illinois.

He served in the United States Army during World War II from January of 1943 to November of 1945. After his service, he enrolled at the University of Wyoming in 1946 where he played football and wrestled.

Following his graduation he began his teaching and coaching career at Greenriver High School, in Greenriver Wyoming. Pearley coached, officiated and taught throughout the state of Wyoming for many years.

He married Lillian D. Wells on July 26th, 1955. In 1963 he and Lillian went into business with Bill Bush to operate Bush-Wells Sporting Goods, until 1965 when he purchased the business from Mr. Bush. He owned and operated Bush-Wells Sporting Goods with the help of his family until the first computer was installed in 1989, at which time his son, Pearley H. Wells III and Terry Nelson purchased the business.

He was given the distinguished service award from Wyoming Coaches Hall of Fame in 1988 in appreciation for the many years of service to Wyoming high school athletics. He was elected into the Wyoming Sports Officials Hall of Fame in its inaugural year in 1992. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge 1908 in Worland, Wyoming.

Pearley had a passion for life, friends and a good story, and was the un-official goodwill ambassador for his neighborhood in Sun Lakes.

He was preceded in death by three sisters Merle Tempco, Imogene Clark and Edna Klemeyer.

He is survived by his wife Lillian of Sun Lakes Arizona, his daughters, Abbe Wells of Sun Lakes, Arizona, Linda Wells of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; son, Pearley H. Wells, III, of Casper, Wyoming; two sisters Rayburn Sander of Boca Raton, Florida, Nancy Hogan of Lawrenceville, Illinois and his foster brother Maurice Stiker of Sun Lakes, Arizona. He also had four grandchildren, two great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held in Wyoming later in the spring so that his many friends may attend.

Arrangements in Arizona are being handled by Valley of the Sun Mortuary at 10940 East Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, Arizona, 85248.
