She had a varied and interesting life traveling with her husband during the course of his travels as a heavy equipment operator. Dud’s brother Curtis Gates (Ken Curtis) played “Festus” on the TV program “Gunsmoke” and Evie and Dud spent many years in the Hollywood area where Evie made many interesting friends.

In 1971, “Dud” was about to retire and they bought 20 acres of land on Road 4 South in Chino Valley, where they moved a few years later and raised sheep.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at the American Lutheran Church with burial at Mountain view Cemetery following.
