James W. Porter, 84, of Glendale and formerly Buckeye died Jan. 8, 2009.

Mr. Porter was born April 7, 1924, in San Bernardino, Calif. He grew up in southern California and Las Vegas. He served as a naval aviator at the end of World War II. He moved to Buckeye in 1967 and operated a wholesale gas and oil business for Chevron. He moved to Glendale in 1984 and worked at McDonald's part time during his retirement years.

He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Calvert of Buckeye and Cindy of Phoenix; two sons, Paul of Phoenix and Ken of Goodyear; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Glendale, 7102 N. 58th Drive.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014-5656.
