Royden R. Shaulis Jr., beloved husband and father, 79, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away at home on January 4, 2003. He was born to Royden R. Sr. and Margaret Shaulis in Somerset Pa. on September 16, 1923.

He graduated from Somerset High School in 1941 and joined the U.S. army as a radio repairman with the 1090th Signal Company. He saw action in the South Pacific during WWII, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. After discharge, he worked for Goodrich Rubber Co. in Akron Ohio, then re-enlisted in the United States Air Force and was selected for Officer Candidate School.

He settled in Tucson in 1968, retiring with the rank of Major after a 28-year career as a finance officer/comptroller. He then embarked on a 20-year career with Catalina Savings (later Southwest Savings) retiring in 1988 as a senior vice president. H

is passions were golfing and traveling.

He is survived by his wife Paula, son, Kim (Somporn); daughters, Karla, Cyndi (Bracken) and Cathy; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Alyssa, Jessica, Justin, Colin and Dakota; great-granddaughter Jocelynn; brother, Norman; sister, Miriam (Carl), sister in-law Phyllis (Bill) and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Mae.

He is an inspiration and comfort upon whom all who knew him could rely, and he will be greatly missed by the many who love him.

There will be a memorial service at Cross In The Desert United Methodist Church, 12835 North 32nd Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85032 on Thursday, January 9 at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the church or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, Az., 85014.
