Douglas Lamar (Doug) Bontrager

Douglas (Doug) Lamar Bontrager, 69, of Glendale, Az. passed away Jan. 26, 2003. He was born in Nappanee Ind., Nov. 1, 1933.

He grew up in the Howard County area, and went to school in Greentown, Ind., graduating from Eastern High School in 1951.

He was known for his baseball pitching abilities. At one time he was scouted by the BaItimore Orioles farm team, but declined their offer.

Doug and his family moved to Phoenix, Az. in 1958. He worked for ELKAY - Mastercraft Kitchens for 37 years. Prior to that, he worked in construction with his father in Indiana and Arizona.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Oba and Mattie Bontrager.

He is survived by his former wife Jean; daughter, Cindy Bontrager both of Glendale, Az.; son and daughter-in-law Kent and Connie Bontrager of Prescott Valley, Az.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Jerry Dufek of Carmel, Ind., Helen and Webb Riley of Phoenix, Az., Velva and Jim Cline of Kokomo, Ind.; one brother and sister-in-law Robert and Mary Bontrager, of Salem, Ore.

A private service was held for the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Odyssey (hospice) at 8977 W. Athens, Peoria, Az., 85382.
