The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Tuesday, January 28, 2003 E. M. (Al) Deshazo, 59, of Surprise, Arizona, passed away January 25, 2003. Visitation Tuesday, January 28th, 5-8 p.m. at Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel, 13738 Camino Del Sol, Sun City West, Arizona. Services Wednesday, January 29th, 11 a.m. at Suprise Center Stadium, Bullard and West Bell, Surprise. No flowers are requested. -------------------------------------------- The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, January 29, 2003 Elvis Mason DeShazo (Al), 59, born May 16, 1943 in Memphis, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2003. He resided in Surprise, Arizona and retired from Maricopa County Hwy. Dept. as Public Works Superintendent after 28 years. Then recruited by the City of Surprise to work with the City Engineer going onto be the Asst. City Manager. He was instrumental in transforming the City of Surprise from a population of approximately 10,000 to what is today 58,000 plus. He served a key role in the development of the new Library, Aquatics Center, baseball parks, and bringing the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals along with their new training facility for Spring Training. He is preceded in death by his daughter Angela Marie DeShazo, and son Robert Allen DeShazo. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Brenda Joyce DeShaz; two sisters Ruth Moon, Alta Perry and one brother, James DeShazo. The family asked that in lieu of flowers Contributions be donated to one of his pet projects "Dream Catcher Park" a park designed and equipped for people with special needs.
