Karl J. Fruetel, Sr., 96, Wahpeton, N.D., died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. Karl John Fruetel, Sr. was born on September 16, 1912 in Everdell, Minn., to Herman and Francis (Schneider) Fruetel.

He moved to North Dakota as a child and was raised in the Dwight area of Richland County. He graduated from Wahpeton School of Science in 1937.

He managed co-op elevators in several North Dakota towns. They settled in Emerado in 1947 where he managed the Farmer's Co-op Elevator for 22 years.

He married Blanche Rezac of Abercrombie, N.D. in 1938. She preceded him in death in 1968.

After the death of his first wife, Blanche, he traveled as an auditor for Atwood-Larson Grain Company and continued this for 7 years.

In 1969 he married Katherine Getz, who passed away in 2003.

Karl retired in 1977 and lived in Grand Forks, N.D., Grace Lake, Minn., Phoenix, Az. and entered St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton, N.D. in 2001.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a past Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge in Larimore, ND in 1959-1960. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Forks, N.D.

Karl is survived by his immediate family, son, Karl Jr. (Butch) and his wife, Evelyn, Jamestown, N.D.; son-in-law, John Lindlan, Minneapolis, Minn.; stepsons, Jon (Nancy) Veitch, St. Paul, Minn., Gary (Mary) Veitch, Phoenix, Az.; ten grandchildren, Dawn, Karl (Buddy), Laura, and Patricia; Shannon Lindlan Karasti, Briana Veitch Isbell, Kim Veitch Cardwell, Jon, Lynn, and Trent Veitch; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, daughter, Rosemary Lindlan; two brothers, Robert and Dean; and three sisters,
Isabelle Fox, Francis Hutchinson, and Marcie Martinson.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 21 at St. Catherine's Living Center with Rev. Paul Baker officiating, followed by Masonic Service.

Interment will be held at Sunset Cemetery, Fargo, North Dakota.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, N.D.
