The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, January 29, 2003 Earl J. Childers, 78, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away January 27, 2003. He served in the U.S. Army. Services are in Lakeside, Arizona. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona February 3, 2003 Earl J. "Bud" Childers He was born to Frank C. Childers and June (Newcom) Childers in Albuquerque, New Mexico June 13, 1924. He was raised as a cowboy on his family's ranch, and served in the U.S. Army and fought in WWII. He was given an honorable discharge after he was wounded while in France. After returning to New Mexico he met Guinn Rogers and her four children; Ginger, Ray, Bobby and Anthony. She worked as a cook at a cafe in Grants New Mexico, they fell in love and married. The family grew larger with six more children, Frank "Boy", James "Soco", Danny, Rhonda, Joe and Guy Lane. He loved and cared for all 10 children equally as his own. Bud worked in logging around New Mexico and Arizona for a few years. They settled in the Pinetop area in the late 1950s. He worked for Al Keno Logging for several years and also for Doy Reidhead Logging as a woods boss, and later for Val Reidhead running a Cat until he retired in 1986. Guinn died in 1976, and he later met Lillian Koenig of Show Low, they were together until his passing. Bud is survived by Lillian Koenig; eight of his children; 33 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. |
