Marie (Johnson) Clark

Marie Johnson Clark, 86, of Glendale and formerly of Buckeye died Jan. 6, 2009.

Mrs. Clark was born in Searsboro, Iowa, to Carroll Elwood and Alice Rebecca Standing Johnson. She was a graduate of William Penn College and Arizona State University, where she earned a master's degree. She married her husband, Roy, in Honolulu. The couple moved to Buckeye. She was a fourth grade teacher at Buckeye Elementary School for 18 years until retirement in 1982.

She was active in the Grand Canyon State Games and Senior Olympics, earning medals in each.

She was a member of Religious Society of Friends. She was also a member and worked at Buckeye Community Church for a few years.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne Maurice of Tustin, Calif., and Howard Dean of Milan, N.Y.; one daughter, Joan Christine Keck of Buckeye; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glencroft Retirement Community, 8641 N. 67th Ave. in Glendale, followed by another service at 4 p.m. at Religious Society of Friends, 1702 E. Glendale Ave. in Phoenix.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014; or the Friendship Foundation at Glencroft, 8611 N. 67th Ave., Glendale, AZ 85302.
