Father Of Roach Roberts Dies, Was Buckeye Pioneer

The Roach Roberts family attended funeral services Monday afternoon for Mr. Roberts' father John G. Roberts, a 79-yearold Buckeye Valley pioneer, who passed away Friday after a long illness.

Born in Trinidad, Colo., August 3, 1874, he came to Arizona with his family when he was 12. They settled in the Buckeye Valley after first living a year in South Phoenix. He farmed and did cowboy work, later homesteading a ranch north of Palo Verde.

Mr. Roberts helped in the construction of the Arizona and Buckeye canals, served a term as cattle inspector, and was deputy sheriff at Buckeye under three Maricopa County sheriffs. He also had been a constable in the Buckeye district.

He was a member of the Arizona Pioneers Union and of the Buckeye and West Gila Valley Old Settlers Union.

Funeral services were held in the Palo Verde Community Church, with burial in Palo Verde Cemetery.
