Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona Friday, December 04, 2009 Don R. Williams, 71, died on Dec. 1, 2009, at home with his family by his side. He was born May 24, 1938, in Globe, to Penn and Louise Williams. At the age of 19, he started his career in cable TV as a lineman with Antenna Vision in Winslow. During his 40 years of service, the names of the cable company changed and the cable systems changed, but his hard work and dedication stayed the same. Mr. Williams was known as a pioneer of cable TV in Arizona, New Mexico and parts of California. He was one of the first to be inducted into the Arizona Cable Pioneer Hall of Fame. In 1971, he was president of the ACTA, and in 1987 charter member of ACTA Hall of Fame. Post News Week Cable SW division named its "Manager of the Year" award after him. He was the real "Cable Guy." Mr. Williams was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was so proud when he got his pioneer hunting and fishing license. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. A highlight of his life was going to the casino with Bette. He also enjoyed growing his garden and loved to cook, sharing his meals with a smile and decorated plate. He will be missed by all who loved him. Mr. Williams is survived by his sister, Clara Kudlock; his wife, Bette Williams; his children, Diana (Raymond), Brenda and David; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service for will be Monday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at Greer's Mortuary chapel in Winslow. Condolences can sent to www. greersmortuary.com. |
