| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, December 01, 2009 Robert Charles (Bob) Morgan entered the next leg of his eternal journey on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009. Bob was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Los Angeles, Calif., where his grandparents settled in the 1880s. He grew up within a few miles of the University of Southern California and was a lifelong fan of Trojan football. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, serving as a radio operator-mechanic and a control tower operator in both California and Germany until 1946. Later he would serve for two years in the 40th Infantry division of the National Guard. It was shortly after his discharge that he met the love of his life, Betty Jane Fleming. They were married on June 14, 1947. Graduating from USC with a degree in engineering, Bob worked for several aerospace companies before retiring from Global Navigation in Prescott in 1989. He believed strongly in giving back to the community through volunteering. Bob was a Boy Scout leader for over 30 years. In addition, he greeted visitors to the Governor's Mansion at Sharlot Hall Museum, was a member of the local amateur radio club (he first received his license W6UMV while 17 years old) and volunteered at the local VA. Bob served on the Prescott City Planning and Zoning Commission just prior to serving a term as mayor of Prescott from 1989 to 1991. It was during his tenure that Prescott became Arizona's Christmas City. During a 10-year stay in Tucson, Bob served on their planning commission, as well as being a docent at the Pima Air and Space Museum. In addition, he served a prison ministry for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for a period of seven years, visiting inmates at the Arizona State Prison in Tucson. Bob was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1952 and took an active part in the church the balance of his life, serving as Elders Quorum President and a member of three High Councils, both in California and Prescott. However, his greatest delight was teaching adult classes in the Bible and Book of Mormon. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; daughter Linda (John) Smutko; son Steve (Patricia); grandchildren Brad (Julee), Jeff (April), Scott (Katie) and Melanie Morgan; and four great-grandchildren. Service will be at 1o a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at the LDS Stake Center on Sandretto Drive in Prescott. The family will receive visitors from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Relief Society Room. A dedication of the grave will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at East Lawn-Palms Cemetery in Tucson with military honors accorded by the U.S. Air Force.
