Mine Employee Is Killed As Loader Rolls Over Cliff

Funeral services were held in Duncan, Ariz., early this week for James C. Lovett, Jr., 32 year-old employee of the Rico Mining Co. of Aguila who was killed last Friday afternoon in a tragic accident 18 miles south of Aguila. The accident, according to Deputy Sheriff Dave Carter, happened near the Black Bart Mine where Lovett was operating a sky loader-a type of mobile scoop loader.

Carter's investigation showed that Lovett had pulled off to the side of the road to allow a truck driven by Roy Allen of Aguila to pass. It is believed the brakes on the loader failed to hold and the heavy machine ran over a cliff, crushing Lovett. He was killed instantly.

Lovett was a resident of Prescott and is survived by his widow and four children. All employees of the Rico Mining Co. on the payroll last Friday donated one shift's pay to the bereaved family.
