The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Thursday, January 30, 2003 Charles H. Mitchell Jr., died Jan. 25. 2003. He was born in Amelia Courthouse, Va. on May 1, 1952 to Charles H. Mitchell, Sr. and Ramona Lucille Jones. Charlie graduated from Casa Grande Union High School in 1970 and Central Arizona College in 1972. He wed his sweetheart, Brenda McHugh on Jan. 31, 1974 in the Arizona Temple. Charlie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and served in many leadership positions throughout the years. He volunteered as a Cub Master, Scout Master and served as a Unit Commissioner with the Boy Scouts of America. He also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Coolidge Fire Department and most recently held the position of Engineer. He received numerous awards including the 1994 Firefighter of the Year. At the time of his passing, he worked for the Pinal County Department of Public Works as a Civil Engineer Tech Supervisor and was the 2001 AZ Association of County Engineer's Robert C. Esterbrooks Award winner in the area of Operation Support. He has also completed Level I of the Road Scholar Program by Arizona LTAP and ADOT. He always helped his children in all of their athletic pursuits and as such was a volunteer with the Coolidge Recreation Department, helping to coach sports from soccer, to basketball, to flag football and little league. Most recently he was an assistant coach for the L.L. Girls softball team. He also served as Vice President of the Coolidge Little League Assoc. He so enjoyed watching his children play sports. He is survived by his wife, his children, Patrick and Heather of Coolidge and Jim, currently serving an LDS mission in Brazil. His parents, two sisters, Carol (Craig) Erwin, Crystal Kinney, and a brother Clifford D. Mitchell. Visitation 10-11 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2003 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Coolidge Ward, 980 N. 9th St, Coolidge, Az. Services following at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Coolidge Ward. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Coolidge Ward Missionary Fund. 413 Lynn Dr., Coolidge, Az., 85228. Charlie was a loving and outgoing man, a friend to all. Our memories are full of his service and kindness. |
