Services: Friday, January 31, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. View Memorial Gardens Mortuary, 7900 E. Main, Mesa. --------------------------------- The East Valley Tribune, Arizona Thursday, January 30, 2003 Memorial services for Raymond E. Nelson, 82, of Mesa, Arizona, and formerly of Vermillion S.D., will be Friday, January 31, 2003, 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 7900 E. Main, Mesa. Mr. Nelson Az. Mr. Nelson was born September 16, 1920 on the family farm, in rural Vermillion, S.D., to Albert T. and Emedia Z. (Norin) Nelson. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII from 1942-1946 as a 1st Lt. pilot of the B24 Liberator. He flew the "hump" over China, Burma and India and served in the Air Force Reserves until 1954. Upon discharge, Raymond returned to the family farm to continue farming. He married Rosalie Knudson, June 16, 1948 in Centerville, S.D., and they moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1981. Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Rosalie, of Mesa; three children, Sandra Nelson of Scottsdale, Az., Sheryl Nelson Caudry and her husband William of Simi Valley, Calif., Galen and his wife Rose Nelson of Phoenix, z.; two granddaughters, Lindsey and Alicia Nelson; brother Bernard Nelson of Fremont, Neb.; two sisters, Ruth Hesla and Alda Hesla, both of Wakonda, S.D.
