Ben Exter Rites Conducted Sunday

Rev. Wayne Jones, pastor of the Assembly of God Church conducted funeral services at 1:30 p. m. last Sunday in the Wickenburg Chapel for Ben Exter, respected local resident who died September 11 in Yuma.

Although Mr. Exter had no known relatives, he had many friends in the 28 years he lived here and the Chapel was filled to overflowing when the services started.

Burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery with the Rev. Jones conducting graveside rites.

Mr. Exter had left his home here September 10 and went to Phoenix via Greyhound Bus. His whereabouts from then until September 24 were unknown as police conducted a state – wide search. Then on September 24, word came that the body of an elderly man found at Yuma September 11 was as yet unidentified.

Al Lancaster, who had been one of Mr. Exter's closest friends for the past 25 years, and Deputy Sheriff Clyde Hall went to Yuma and established identification.

Mr. Exter was born October 11, 1876, in Spring Lake, Mich. He had lived in Idaho, where he was a miner prior to coming here 28 years ago. He resided about a mile and one-half out on the Phoenix Highway where he raised chickens and sold eggs for many years. He was never married.

Pallbearers were Bill Henry, Fred Stewart, Al Cochran, Wayne Jones, W. Riggin and Al Lancaster.
