The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona January 31, 2003 Richard J. Schaer, age 79, passed away January 28, 2003. He was born in Illinois and moved to Iowa where he graduated from Wapello High School. Richard joined the Navy and served his country for four years during WWII. He was a devoted husband to his wife Alice for 58 years. The family moved to Phoenix in 1953. His career was with Goettle Bros. until his retirement in 1986. His hobbies included licensed Ham Radio operator, hunting, fishing and silversmith. Richard is survived by his wife Alice; daughter Sandra; two grandchildren, Cary and Chris; two great-grandchildren, Alicia and Alex and son-in-law, Richard. Services will be held on Friday, January 31, at 12:30 at the Heritage Funeral Chapel at 6830 W. Thunderbird Rd. Richard will be laid to rest at the National Memorial Cemetery following the service.
