The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 1, 2003 Richard C. Fickett, 72 years old died January 29, 2003 at Hospice of Arizona. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born 10/11/30 in Lewiston, Maine. Richard was the son of Ernest Leigh and Orilla Emily Fickett. Prior to attending College, he was in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He graduated from the University of Maine, class of 1960, earning a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He relocated to Broad Brook, CT, where he raised his family. He devoted his leisure time to the Foreign Exchange Program, East Windsor Board of Education. Boy Scouts and founded the Babe Ruth Little League of East Windsor. He was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT from 1960 -1977. He resigned from this job to start a wholesale Lobster Business on Orrs Island, Maine. Winters were tough enough to drive Richard to Phoenix, AZ, where he found employment at Honeywell of Phoenix, Arizona. He was employed here for 10 years prior to his retirement in 1990. Richard was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing with his brothers, his sons and grandsons. Another favorite pass time was sailing the coast of Maine, Harboring in York, Harraseket and Baily Island. Richard is survived by his loving Wife of 53 years, Mabel Fickett of Tempe, AZ, and his five children, Richard K. Fickett of Tempe, AZ, Debra Desrocher of East Hampton, CT, Nancy Fickett (Sr. Amy Elizabeth, lsp) of Philadelphia, PA, Glenn Fickett of Tempe, AZ and Kathy Price of Tempe, AZ. He had 7 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. He will be remembered fondly and missed greatly. The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Arizona for the excellent care they provided to our Husband, father, grandfather and friend. A funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held Saturday, 2/1/03 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church located at 2121 South Rural Rd., Tempe, AZ at 10:00 A.M.
