The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 1, 2003 Garry Lee Graham, 62, of Phoenix passed away December 23, 2002 at Scottsdale Memorial Shea. He was born August 27, 1940, in Gary, Indiana and was brought to Arizona by his parents in 1945. Mr. Graham attended the original Creighton Elementary and Phoenix Union High School. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Navy and served aboard the Essex Class CVS-20 U.S.S. Bennington 1958 to 1962. He loved the opportunity to travel and made many new friends. Upon leaving the Navy, he managed Graham's Drive-In Liquors until going to work for the City of Phoenix, Street Transportation Dept. Mr. Graham retired in 1999 after 35 yrs Service and had received numerous service awards. Garry loved the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing. He frequently took his children and many nephews and nieces along on his jaunts and passed his love of the outdoors on to them. Mr. Graham had visited every monument and ruin in Arizona and studied the geology, cacti, flowers, insects, and reptiles. There wasn't a road he wasn't familiar with on his long drives. He will be greatly missed by his family. Mr. Graham was preceded in death by his parents, Rilus, Sr. and Marie Timmerman Graham, Brother Rilus Jr. and his youngest Son David Shawn Graham. He is survived by his wife, Nelda Sorenson Graham; Son Michael Todd; Daughter Tracy Gatewood (Mark); Grandsons Mark Steven and Trevor Graham Gatewood. Also surviving Brother Donald N. Graham (Anne), Henderson, NV; Sisters Mary Ann Johnston, Phoenix; Shelley K. Graham, Mesa; maternal Aunt Doris J. Brewer, Lake Station, IN. Cremation Advantage Mortuary. Memorial Services Saturday, February 15, 2002, 2:00 p.m., Scottsdale Bible Church Chapel, 7601 East Shea Blvd., Scottsdale. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Scottsdale Bible Church.
