The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, January 8, 2003 John Woodrow McCoy, 87, Chandler, Arizona, passed away January 5, 2003. Courtesy of Pat Wilson. ----------------------------------------- The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Friday, January 10, 2003 Dr. John W. McCoy, 87, "The Real McCoy", was born May 26, 1915 in Pryor Creek, 0k. He graduated from Kansas State Teachers' College in Pittsburg, Kansas where he met and married his beloved wife, Pat, in 1938. He became a teacher/coach until World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater as a Lt. (jg) in the U.S. Navy. After receiving his Masters, he became a school administrator throughout Kansas and Missouri until 1963 when he moved his family to Arizona in order to work on his Ed.D. in Educational Administration at A.S.U. Dr. McCoy was the first Director of Title I in Arizona and continued working as Superintendent of Eloy and then Chinle. His final position before retiring was working on a grant at A.S.U. He will forever be remembered by his loving wife, Pat, of 64 years, two sons, Mike and John, one daughter, Patti Grocott, and son-in-law Mike, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his love of family, wit, loyalty, generosity, and as one of the best quail hunters around. A memorial service will take place at noon on Saturday at Chandler Presbyterian Church, 1500 W. Germann Rd. Donations may be given to Banner Hospice. Courtesy of Pat Wilson. |
