Michael David Nelson, passed away January 2, 2003 in Arlington, Virginia. Michael was born on December 5, 1951 in Fort Lee, Virginia.

His parents were Marian Elaine Johnson Nelson and David Eldon Nelson. In 1961 the family moved to Arizona and Mike considered this home ever since. Mike loved the Arizona sunshine.

Michael is survived by his wife, LoRita, son, Michael David Nelson II, daughter-in-law, Hillery, sons, Peter, Matthew, Alexander and Robert, his mother, Marian; grandmother, Lila, brother, Mark, and sisters, Michelle, Kim, and Nancy.

Michael was an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and has been well known for his work with the Boy Scouts of America. While in Rangoon, Burma Mike started scout troops among the youth. As a young man, Mike went on a mission for the church to Taiwan and continued to be a good missionary the world over. Mike and his family has spent many of the last 22 years in Asia working for the State Department out of Washington, DC.

Mike was active in the scout program throughout Beijing, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Rangoon, and the Phillipines. His reputation always preceded him as everyone always looked forward to him coming and working with the youth in the scout program he loved so well. Mike has held several positions in the church wherever the family has lived.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2003 at the Scottsdale Eldorado Ward, 2202 N. 74th St., Scottsdale, Az.

Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will follow at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 27th Ave and Van Buren St. in Phoenix.

"Mike has accomplished more in his 51 years than most of us could in 100. He loved his fellow man."
