The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 2, 2003 Daniel "Dan" Stevan Sparks, 49, passed away January 29, 2003. A long time fixture in the Scottsdale hospitality industry, Dan was known for his droll sense of humor, his engaging personality and his strong love for his numerous friends and family. His friends number in the hundreds of old-time Scottsdale residents who knew and loved him over the years. He tended bar and developed strong relationships with many Scottsdalians at such establishments such as The Salt Cellar, Karsens Grill, Carlsbad Tavern and the old Coyote Cafe, to name just a few. A fabulous caterer, Dan could whip up any meal for any number of clients and they were more than satisfied. Born in Phoenix, he graduated from Coronado High School in Scottsdale. Dan is survived by his mother, Eloise Sparks of Mesa, his sister, Kathy King of Scottsdale and his nephew, Shawn Miller of Glendale. He lived with his loving companion Peggy Gilbert in Scottsdale.
