Alpheus L. Favour

A chapter of Prescott’s history came to a close with the death of Alpheus Lambert Favour (A.L. Favour) on January 12, 2008 in Prescott. Born November 6, 1914 in Kenton, Ohio. Al lived his entire life in Prescott from infancy to his death 93 years later. He had many fond childhood memories of growing up in Prescott: the family home on Mt. Vernon Street; Washington Elementary School; Boy Scout Troop 1; and Prescott High School (Class of 1932).

After graduation from Stanford University and the University of Arizona, Al entered law practice with his father A.H. Favour in the firm Favour and Baker. Al served his country during WWII as a member of the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge he returned to Prescott and established a new law firm with his brother John M. Favour. He continued as an active member of the State Bar of Arizona for 65 years. He served in both Houses of the Arizona Legislature where he was instrumental in passing Water Rights and Right to Work legislation which still stands today.

During his lifetime he also pursued a love of livestock ranching. As owner of the Bar Cross Outfit he expanded into farming and feed lot operations in California and Arizona. As a member of Yavapai Cattle Growers Association he served in several leadership positions. The first Captain of Yavapai County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse, Al was the last remaining Charter Member.

A member of the Masonic Atzlan Lodge #1 Al served various State and National Masonic affiliates. Al showed his particular love for our community’s children by his continued support of such organizations as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boy Scouts and Kiwanis Club.

Preceded in death by his wife Capella Slipher Favour (2003), son A.H. Favour (2002) and sisters Kay (Merchant) and Mary (Hazeltine). Al is survived by his brother John M. Favour, son Mark Slipher Favour (Kim), and daughter Allison Favour Kravetz (Howard). He leaves 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. This family and his friends will remember Al for his keen mind, quick wit and abiding concern for all people.

Private services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to either Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters, 103 E. Gurley St., Prescott, Ariz., 86301 or Yavapai County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse Scholarship Fund (YCMSP), P.O. Box 95, Prescott, Ariz., 86302

Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements. Visit and sign Al’s guestbook at: www.ruffnerwakelin.com
