The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 3, 2003 Samuel Benson Peskin, 82, of Scottsdale. He was born in Boston, MA on Feb. 18, 1920 and died Feb. 1, 2003. Sam was a graduate of Boston Latin School, and of the University of Massachusetts in 1943. After graduating from college he received a Fellowship for graduate study, but chose to enlist in the Army Air Corps instead of returning to school. A first lieutenant, he served his country as the pilot of a B-24 Liberator bomber in the 15th Air Force. He saw action in the European theater, where his plane was shot down by the enemy in October, 1944 after a raid on Munich. He and his injured crew made a forced landing in Switzerland, where he spent one month as an internee, before escaping and rejoining his unit in Italy. Back in the USA, on a visit to New York City, he met his future bride, Jeanne. They were married in 1945 and best friends for over 57 years. Sam was the founder and President of Creative Chemicals, Inc. in Palmer, MA. He moved to Scottsdale in 1990, where he volunteered as a teachers aide and substitute teacher for 5th and 6th graders. Sam was the loving father of two sons, Judd L. Peskin and David L. Peskin, both of Longmeadow, MA and 5 beloved grandchildren. Sam was most proud of his family and the many friends he made through his business and volunteer work. Funeral services will be held at Sinai Mortuary, 4538 N. 16th St., Phoenix on Monday, February 3rd, at 3:30 PM. A memorial observance will be held at the family home at 7541 E. Becker Lane in Scottsdale through Wednesday, February 5th. Donations in his memory may be made to the Brandeis University Women's Committee, Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, or Hospice of the Valley. {Courtesy of Pat Wilson} |
