The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 4, 2003 Evangeline Bakke Fairall, Born on June 18, 1919, in Camrose Canada passed away January 31, 2003, at Del Webb Hosptial from a broken hip and complications. Evangeline was the daughter of Thorvald and Thora Bakke and she had two brothers, Martin and Ben, and has one living sister Catherine. Thorvald Bakke was a Norwegian Lutheran minister who had many congregations in several states when Evangeline was a child. Evangeline witnessed when she was 12 years old the automobile accident by the drunk driver that would claim her father's life. At that time she made-up her mind to be a nurse. She graduated from Lutheran Deaconess in Chicago in 1943. She enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Registered Nurse in England and Germany from 1944 to 1946 progressing to the rank of Captain. She met her future husband, Major W.R. "Bud" Fairall, in Germany and they were married there. When they returned to the states they lived in Philadelphia and their son Mark was born in 1949. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1951. Evangeline worked as a private duty nurse, in several hospitals, a doctors office, and started and ran a nursery school. Her husband "Bud" worked for Valley National Bank and in 1973 he was transferred to Kingman. In Kingman, Evangeline was active in Civic Activities, Republicans Women's Organization, and the County Health Board. Bud was transferred to Sun City West as Valley National Bank's Regional Vice President in 1978. Bud retired in 1983 and passed away in 1991. In 1996 Evangeline put her nursing skills to use again to care for her son Mark who suffers from a stroke and has seizures. She has been doing that even with her bad back and medical problems up unto the day that she passed away. Evangeline is survived by her son, Mark, and two grandchildren, Tiffany and Justin. Evangeline was always willing to sacrifice herself to help others no matter how badly she felt. She had a strong belief in God and her good works reflected her Christian faith. Services will be held at The American Lutheran Church of Sun City on Wednesday at 1:00 PM. There will be a viewing one hour before the service. Instead of flowers the family asks that donations be given to The American Lutheran Church of Sun City, 17200 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85351.
